Energy is one of the prime commodities for the growth of any nation. In the recent past energy crisis has kindled researcher in search for an efficient alternative bioenergy. India, though has coal, thermal, hydro, nuclear, solar energy and still faces shortage energy. Finding a renewable, alternative and cheaper source is imperative and any search in this direction of alternative fuel will be a stepping stone. Among them, microalgae are one of the best choices for biodiesel. Though a number of laboratories and companies in worldwide are engaged in this venture, still this remains only an academic exercise. High quality liquid bioenergy production could be economically feasible by exploiting hyper lipid producing marine microalgae. Marine microalgae are the best candidates, as they are sun light driven cell factories which efficiently convert light energy into chemical energy.

My research interest is to bioprospect the marine microalgae (Cyanobacteria, Green algae and Diatom) representing various geographical regions of southern coast of Tamil Nadu for lipid production and endorsed fatty acid profile. Potent strain will be validated in vitro and tried for outdoor mass cultivation for biodiesel production.
